2020 Democratic favorites rake in donations during Q2 fundraising, still trail Trump

It’s no surprise that the six candidates with the best odds to win the 2020 presidential election raised the most funds for the second quarter of 2019.

President Donald Trump (+100 to win the election) and the Republican Party raised the most, $105 million, in the second quarter, eclipsing all individual Democratic candidates.

As for the Democratic Party, the five candidates with the best odds—  Kamala Harris (+450), Joe Biden (+600), Elizabeth Warren (+800), Bernie Sanders (+1000), and Pete Buttigieg (+1000)— earned $96 million in the last three months, roughly three-fourths of the total raised by every Democratic candidate combined.

Buttigieg amassed the most out of the Democrat pool, totaling $24.8 million in the second quarter. In the first quarter, he only raised $7.1 million.

Biden, despite not entering the presidential race until April, garnered the second-most donations, totaling $22 million. Although Biden’s numbers have slipped over the last month, his fundraising numbers are staying strong.

The party’s frontrunner, Harris, fell flat with her second quarter donations, only totaling $11.8 million. Unlike Sanders and Warren, Harris continues to attend high-profile donation events to boost her donation numbers.

Ironically, Harris still earned less than Sanders’s $18 million and Warren’s $19 million in the second quarter. She was able to raise $12 million between January and March, however.

Candidates will be required to report third-quarter fundraising totals for July-September on October 15, 2019.
