On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Rhode Island will be holding a general election that will consist of a race for two US House seats, one US Senate seat, numerous state seats, and the Presidency of the United States. The 2020 Presidential primaries, however, were first. These were slated to be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, but the elections were moved to June 2 as a result of COVID-19. While the primaries are now over, you still have a ton of online election betting odds to choose from.
RI has been having a few issues of late with several local Democrats defecting to the GOP side, while some Republicans have converted to third parties. Rifts within parties can muddy the waters during election years, and it is clear that both Democrats and Republicans are losing their connections in the state. However, the consensus is that RI will overwhelmingly support the Democratic nominee in the general election regardless.

RI is an overwhelmingly blue state. In fact, it’s one of the strongest Democratic trifectas in the US, dominated at all levels by the Democratic party. Thus, Donald Trump didn’t stand a chance in the 2016 Presidential election in Rhode Island, where voters chose Hillary Clinton at a rate of 54.4% to Trump’s 38.9%. While it’s possible that Trump could do better in the state in 2020, the GOP is unlikely to turn the state red any time soon.
The Democrat primary odds in Rhode Island were originally far less predictable than the GOP betting odds. In 2016, the Bernie Sanders odds showed him as the favorite to win the state, which he did with ease against Hillary Clinton. So, would the state choose a mainstream candidate like Joe Biden or a more progressive radical like Andrew Yang? Well, Biden ended up winning with ease, though he was running uncontested by the time RI’s delayed primaries were held.
While there was not been any real polling done for Rhode Island Republican voters, the state’s moderate-to-liberal standing made it likely that incumbent Donald Trump would prevail. After all, Trump took the RI Republican primary in 2016 by a huge margin, commanding 62.92% of the vote. Because Trump had no credible GOP challengers, he won the 2020 RI primary with 88.6% of the vote, taking all 19 delegates. Bill Weld finished with 5.6% of the vote.
Rhode Island has voted blue in the last seven Presidential elections. That’s really all you need to know if you intend to vote on the 2020 Rhode Island Presidential election. Still, there are plenty of other betting lines and political props to choose from at reputable political odds sites, so you can definitely win big money on Little Rhody.
