IWD2019: Odds For Each of the Women Running For President in 2020
In our nation’s nearly quarter-millennia history, American voters came closer than ever to electing the first woman as President of the United States in 2016.
Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, who became the first woman to earn the presidential nomination for from major political party, would come up short of the 270 electoral college votes required to become president against the eventual winner, Republican nominee Donald Trump, losing by a count of 304-227 electoral votes despite winning the popular vote by a total of 2,868,686 votes.
Since then, a growing movement to continue pushing forward for equal rights and opportunities for women has picked up steam and several monumental breakthroughs have resulted because of it.
In politics specifically, we saw a record 36 women win seats in the U.S. House of Representatives during the 2018 midterms, which led to 102 seats being held by women in the House — the most in our country’s history and capped off 2018 as the year that many called the “Year of the Woman.”
International Women’s Day 2019, observed annually on March 8, is a day to bring more awareness for social change and to celebrate all of the women around the world who’ve made the world a better place and have transformed our lives.
And with a record number of women running for a single party’s nomination than ever before, we wanted to examine the 2020 odds for each of the female candidates.
Quick note: Before beginning, it’s important to know that the nominee from the Democratic Party (-150|57.28%) is currently favored over the nominee from the Republican Party (+120|42.72%), and all six of the female candidates who’ve officially announced are Democrats.
However, the odds will continue to fluctuate as candidates gain momentum or drop out leading all the way up to and during election night on November 3, 2020, and if 2016 taught oddsmakers, handicappers, and the American people anything, it’s that nothing is a safe bet.
So without further ado, let’s see which of the women who’ve officially announce have the best chance to break the glass ceiling and become the next President of the United States in 2020.

2020 Odds: (+600|14.29%)
- Senator Kamala Harris of California has been the heavy favorite among all the Democratic candidates — both female and male — to win the presidency ever since she announced her candidacy on Jan. 21, 2019. 2020 Odds: (+2500|3.85%)
- Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota is tied for the second spot among the 2020 female candidates and officially announced her presidential bid on Feb. 10, 2019. Many experts consider her a dark horse and after watching her calm approach to the Kavanaugh hearing, Democrats may level-headed approach to recapturing votes in the Midwest. At +2500 she gives a lot of value to bettors and as we get closer to the debates, she’ll show voters why she is a force to be reckoned with while focusing on topics like ending the opioid crisis in America.
Elizabeth Warren
2020 Odds: (+2500|3.85%)
- Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts is tied for the second highest odds among the women running in 2020 and officially announced her campaign on Feb. 9, 2019. However, she will need to somehow overcome the dark cloud hanging over her from the recent controversies surrounding her Native American claims.
Kirsten Gillibrand
2020 Odds: (+3300|2.94%)
- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York comes in at the fourth spot and announced her 2020 campaign on “The Late Show” on Jan. 16, 2019. She has become one of the most influential liberal leaders in the Senate and has focused on women’s equality ever since she became a politician. However, she will need to further differentiate herself if she’s going to challenge the top contenders for the presidency.
Tulsi Gabbard
2020 Odds: (+4000|2.44%)
- S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii comes in at the fifth spot and announced her 2020 campaign on Jan. 11, 2019 in an interview with CNN. She served our country as a field medic in the Hawaii Army National Guard from 2004-2005 in the combat zone of Iraq and to Kuwait in 2008-2009. She is a supporter of left-wing policies but her work for an anti-gay advocacy group in the past will likely hurt her in the long run unless she can truly prove that she wants to champion and advance LGBTQ rights going forward.
Marianne Williamson
2020 Odds: (N/A|>1%)
- Marianne Williamson is a New York Times bestselling self-help author and lecturer who rose to prominence after appearing several times on The Oprah Winfrey Show. On Jan. 29, 2019, she announced her 2020 campaign and checks in at the final spot on the list. She is also known for helping those with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have odds at the moment, but we’re sure that’ll change if she’s able to get on the debate stage in June.
